Auctioneer Richard Ryan oversaw an 83% clearance and an average sale price of €4,060 at Saturday’s Munster Angus Breeders Sale in Golden Vale, Kilmallock.
Eleven bulls achieved prices of €4,000 or more, with a broad customer base of dairy and suckler farmers.
Jim Dockery of the Towra Angus Herd in Co Offaly adjudicated in the pre-sale show, selecting Kilsarlaught Lord How Ya from the herd of Patrick J Houlihan in Skibbereen, Co Cork, as his overall champion.
A double five-star son of Loughlynn Ultan, he went on to sell for €4,300
Reserve champion and top price of the day was forked out for the only Red Angus bull in the sale, Hyland Red Albert. From the herd of Denis Jones in Ballydesmond, Co Cork, Red Albert is a June 2024-born son of the homebred sire, Hyland Utopia. Despite carrying just a three-star replacement index of €141 and ranking in the bottom 20% of the breed for terminal, he went on to sell for the top price of €6,200.
The second-highest price of the day was €4,500 which was paid for Boiheamach Aindriu from the herd of John and Lucie Walsh. Aindriu is a December 2024-born son of the herds stock bull, Drumcarbin Va Va Voom.
Following closely behind at €4,400 was Balcarrig Boss, a January 2025-born son of Laheens U Boss Hogg from the herd of Jeremiah O’Leary in Ballydesmond.
