Roscommon Mart had almost 800 Lleyn sheep through the ring last Saturday for the annual show and sale of Lleyn sheep.
Trade was described as “brisk” during the day with big demand for breeding hoggets pushing prices to €400/head on several occasions.
The first-prize-winning individual shearling ewe from Paul Jennings sold for €470.

The red rosette for the best pen of five shearling ewes went to David Oliver and they later sold for €420/head. Alan McDonald took home the top price of €480/head for his pen of second-prize-winning ewes. Alan McDonald also took home the top call for his fourth-prize-winning shearling ewe in the individual class selling for €500.
Paul Jennings sold his first-prize-winning shearling ewe for €470. Top call in the ewe lamb section went to another Offaly man, this time Brian Matthews selling his second-prize-winning pen for €270/head. Pat Bobbett sold his first-prize-winning pen of ewe lambs for €240/head. David Oliver sold his second-prize-winning shearling ram for €1,720. Taking the red rosette in this class was Offaly man Alan McDonald for his shearling ram which later sold for €1,600.

Top price of the sale went to the Tullamore Show & FBD National Livestock Show champion, Laughil Nimbus from the Louth-based flock of Paul Jennings selling for €3,000. Cavan breeder David Beattie also took home €1,500 for his shearling ram, Dillagh Nashville. Beattie also had a good day in the shearling ewe section selling 120 ewes ranging in price from €250 for a pen of 10 to €470 for an individual shearling ewe.
