Highly anticipated with the inclusion of some promising young Limousin females, the South West and Cork Limousin Clubs biennial sale on Saturday 6 September proved another firecracker of a sale for the Limousin breed. With a pre-sale catalogue of 34 heifers there was plenty for buyers to choose from, including winners from the recent National Limousin Show in Tullamore.
One of those prize winners was Knockcoolkeare Violet, a Plumtree Fantastic daughter from Michael Roche's herd in Mountcollins, Co Limerick. Once again, she proved the star of the show, selling for the top price of €10,000.
Born in November 2024, Violet has had a fantastic show season, picking up a red ticket in Tullamore and the overall championship at Middleton. Violet’s dam, Knockcoolkeare Toffee, also had a star studded career, winning the Junior Female Champion at the National Show in 2023. Violet will now join a pedigree herd in Northern Ireland.
Claddagh McCabe daughter
Ryans Ulla, a daughter of Claddagh McCabe ET, was next best at €6,600 for Ger Ryan and family from Cork. Born in October 2023, Ulla carries a copy of both the F94L and Q204X genes and found a new home in the rebel county with a breeder from Mallow.

Selling at €6,000 was the in-calf Ewdenvale Ivor daughter, Portauns U Ivy, from Laurence and John Lynch in Kilmallock, Co Limerick. U Ivy’s dam is the homebred Ampertaine Commander daughter, Portauns Polly 1070. Carrying a single copy of the F94L and Q204X genes she was acquired by a Monaghan-based buyer.

This capped off a brilliant weekend for the Ryans and Portauns herds who were only recovering from their marathon of an Angus sale in Thurles on Friday evening.
Wood Road success
Also selling for €6,000 and heading to a new home in Co Kerry was the 13-month-old Wood Road Violet from Noel Fennessy’s herd in Castleconnell, Co Limerick. Violet is a daughter of Ampertaine Jackpot and the Bavardage daughter, Wood Road Ruth.
Coming from the same stable was Wood Road Uma, an in-calf daughter of Foxhillfarm Jasper and Wood Road Gerada ET. A buyer from Co Monaghan wrapped her up at €5,900.
Michael Roche added to his haul when he received a call of €5,800 for Knockcoolkeare Vitality. A 10-month-old daughter of Ardlea Rigby ET and the Gamin daughter, Knockcoolkeare Lady Nadia B, Vitality has been a regular prize winner on the show circuit this summer.
Noel Fennessy had a day to remember as he set the scene for things to come, selling the first lot through the ring, Wood Road Tatum, for €5,000. This May 2022-born heifer was the oldest on offer and has Plumtree Fantastic, Sympa, and Apache in her lineage. She went to auction in-calf to Ampertaine Jackpot.
Overall, 20 heifers changed hands settling at an average of €4,790.
