The Waterford Blackface Sheep Breeders Association held its 86th annual show and sale on 19 September at Dungarvan Mart.

Eugene Branagan from Co Down judged the pre-show sale, which offered ten strongly supported classes.

Overall champion on the day was a shearling ram from Liam and Brian Whelan.

They had day to remember as he later went on to sell for a new Waterford Blackface Sheep Breeders Association Perth longwool record of €10,450.

Reserve champion of the preshow sale was a shearling ram from Patrick and Pa Whyte who sold for €5,000.

Billy and Craig Fraher also had a memorable day out, taking both champion and reserve champion of the ram lamb section.

Their good fortune continued into the sale ring where they realised €6,100, the second top price of the sale, also exceeding the existing society record and marking a new highest ram lamb record. Overall, 101 hogget rams averaged €1,000 while 31 ram lambs averaged €890.

Thirty-eight sheep sold for over €1,000.
