A pair of significant land blocks in two different dairy strongholds have recently been put on the market in Co Cork.

For sale by private treaty, the non-residential holdings are sure to draw strong interest given their size and location.

The larger of the two is on the books of Dungarvan-based Harty Auctioneers and is situated in east Cork, close to the county bounds with Waterford and consists of a 129ac roadside farm at Carrigeen, Conna.

Fronting on to a bend on the River Bride, the farm is all in one block and is presently in grass, with a central farm roadway and paddock fencing throughout.

All in grass, the land is divided using a paddock system..

Centrally located and reached via a laneway that is over 500m long, the yard has significant concrete areas and is primarily used for animal handling facilities now.

A number of buildings remain, including a three-span four-column shed, two barns and a storage shed. Water supply is via a private source and there is an electricity connection.

Centrally located, there are a number of functional but dated buildings in the yard.

There is also a derelict residence in the yard, but this hasn’t been lived in for almost 30 years. It could be useful if the new purchaser was to seek planning permission on the farm.

The yard is centrally located, roughly 500m from the public road.

This farm is about 4km from the village of Conna and within 2km from the N72 road, which links Fermoy and Tallow, with Tallow five minutes’ drive away and Fermoy reached in 10 minutes.

Auctioneer Margaret Harty said: “This farm is presently in a 15-year lease, with nine years remaining. It’s a well-established lease, which could provide an immediate rental income and secure investment in a renowned dairy farming area.

"The lease does have an option for a price increase from year 10. We’re guiding this farm in the mid-€20,000s/ac.”

West Cork property

The second farm consists of 104.3ac at Lisnagat, Bandon. North of Bandon, it is in a hotbed of dairy activity, with the farm less than 3km from the R590 road that links Bandon and Crookstown.

The 104.1ac non-residential holding at Lisnagat, Bandon, Co Cork is for sale by private treaty.

Presently a mix of grass and tillage, the south-facing farm is in one block and is laid out in 20 separate fields, with mature, well-maintained hedgerows dividing them.

Approximately 15ac would be described as rougher grazing. There are streams on the eastern and western boundaries.

It’s available in its entirety or in two lots. Lot A consists of 47.2ac, while there are 57.1ac in Lot B.

On the books of Clonakilty-based Hodnett Forde Property Services, this holding is suitable to any type of farming enterprise and is guided at between €14,000/ac and €17,000/ac.
