Pride and joy: “This truck was top of the Scottish fleet in 2015 at Truckfest in Ingliston. Like a farmer showing a bull or a sheep, I like my lorries to look good on the road.”
Business history: “My dad took over from Taylor of Gordon in 1984. Initially we were about 80% livestock, now we’re about 40%. We look after local livestock all over Scotland and the north of England. “We were transporting timber-framed houses to France, but Brexit stopped that. I have been in the industry for 32 years.”
Investing in the business: “This year I’ve bought a double-decker cattle lorry and four-deck sheep lorry. I like to keep up-to-date.
Staff: “Me, and I also have seven full-time staff.”
This week: “We were doing Christmas trees at the end of November from the Borders to London, Guildford and Twickenham. We’ve started delivering young trees for planting as well.”
Weather: “The snow hasn’t affected us too much. One lorry was in Bedfordshire this week delivering a timber-framed house. We’ve got straw to deliver to some customers, but it’s too icy to get up the farm roads, so we need to put that on hold until conditions improve. “We’ve been very busy from the summertime to now with livestock sales in the back-end, store sales and taking livestock to the slaughterhouse. Then seed grain in the back end when farmers are sowing.”
Quotable quote: “If it will go on a lorry, I’ll give it a go!”
