Most of us know on some level that binge-watching TV series too often probably isn’t that good for us. On the other hand, every now and then, when the rare chance to recharge the batteries comes around, it can be just what the doctor ordered.

With Netflix by far and large the most accessible way to consume TV series all at once, Irish Country Living has listed some of the most binge-worthy options on the site, in the hope that someday soon you’ll get to put your feet up.

Planet Earth

What is more relaxing than the soothing tones of David Attenborough’s narration? Very little! There are two series of Planet Earth on Netflix, both offering amazing insights into the natural world, accompanied by astonishing visuals of the animal kingdom. The first series won an Emmy, watch and you’ll see why. For anyone who is fond of nature documentaries, this is a must see.

Bodyguard

Starring Richard Madden, who won a Golden Globe for his performance, Bodyguard is captivating from the very off. Set against the backdrop of several different terror attacks and attempts, this political thriller follows the life of David Budd, a war veteran. He is assigned to protect the very politician that prominently advocated for the conflict that wounded him so badly. With just six installments, the many twists and turns will keep viewers enthralled to the very end.

Tiny House Nation

Although set in the US, this docuseries will strike a chord with many Irish viewers. Tiny House Nation follows people as they downsize their homes for either financial freedom or a simpler lifestyle. Renovation experts help design and construct dream homes in under 500sqft, with some seriously tight spaces causing some serious creativity. It is easy viewing and sometimes you just can’t stop.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine

A cop show with both hilarity and heart, Brooklyn Nine-Nine follows the capable but immature Jake Peralta, who must learn to get along with the rest of his team when a new leader emerges. The sitcom has two Golden Globes for Best TV Comedy and Best Actor in a Comedy. With five weird, whacky and wonderful series, you’ll get a few duvet days out of this one.

Dead to Me

This dark comedy explores the unusually funny sides of grief, loss and forgiveness. Sardonic Jen and optimistic Judy are unlikely allies, but having both suffered a loss, meet in a support group and strike up an unlikely friendship. Their opposite natures create plenty of laughs, but ultimately it is Jen’s desire to protect Judy that really entices people to keep watching.
