I see a 450,000ha station in Australia’s Northern Territory has been snapped up by British livestock producer Shaun Davis for €16.1m.
While the acquisition of Benmara Station caught The Dealer’s eye because it’s the size of Co Kerry, it is its former owner’s failed plans for carbon credits that are perhaps the bigger story.
Benmara was last purchased in 2023 for €24.8m by Sam Mitchell, the founder of Sydney-based investment company WealthCheck.
Mitchell’s dreams of running no cattle and more trees seem to have gone awry, to the tune of almost €9m in property value loss.
Who said there’s no money in climate farming?
