The notoriously private boss of bread company Aryzta, Owen Killian, has splashed out a seven-figure sum on a new pad on one of the country’s most affluent streets.

Killian paid €6.5m for No 2 Shrewsbury Road in Dublin 4. This is the second most expensive house sale in 2014. Killian does not plan to stop there, however. He has plans to more than double the size of the house through an “iceberg development”, meaning that most of the extension will be underground.

Originally from Roscommon, Killian started off in the IAWS seeds department in 1976 before working his way up to chief executive in 2003. IAWS became Aryzta in 2007. Killian pocketed a cool €5.1m salary last year as well as €17.5m from the sale of shares.
