Future marketing of Irish butter has been in the headlines of late, and I note that its old routes to market will be celebrated this weekend in Cork City.

The Butter Museum in the city is reviving the Old Butter Roads Festival this weekend and it celebrates the links between rural producers and the old urban centre where everything was traded. Proceedings get underway on Thursday evening, 8 October, with the launch of Joe Harrington’s book, Once Upon a Road.

Along with talks, walks and tastings, there will be music from the Cork Butter Exchange Brass and Reed Band, also known as ‘Da Buttera’.
