The race for Macra national president heated up at the weekend as Laois man Paddy Delaney became the fourth entrant. Last Friday, the current Leinster vice president told his club of 11 years, Portlaoise, that he was putting his name forward and officially announced his candidacy on Monday night before the Laois Macra county executive meeting.
Paddy, who works as a maltster for Boortmalt and farms part-time, declared that he is “in it to win it” and is now hoping to be the third Macra president from the Portlaoise club, following in the footsteps of Hugh Ryan and Michael Gowing.
The four candidates for president are: Michelle O’Callaghan, Cork; Eamon Cassells, Meath; Seán Finan, Roscommon; and Paddy Delaney, Laois.
