I gather a herd of dairy cows mistook the Limerick tunnel for an underpass last week. It’s easy to understand their confusion, in all fairness.

The 100-strong herd broke out and ended up on Limerick City’s busy Dock Road roundabout last Friday evening.

Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) posted on social media: “Animals on road on Limerick Tunnel between J2-Dock Road and J3-Coonagh (northbound).”

It is unknown if the cattle’s exciting explorations actually brought them through the tunnel onto the Dock Road.

Most importantly though, the cows were rounded up and no one was hurt. Le cúnamh Dé.
