The Irish Natura and Hill Farmers Association (INHFA) has confirmed its vice-president John Joe Fitzgerald is stepping down.
In a statement from president Phelim Molloy, the INHFA said he is stepping back from his position as a result of health concerns.
Molloy said that while it is disappointing, the organisation accepts his decision and recognises that his health is a priority and wishes him well in his recovery.
The statement read: “John Joe Fitzgerald has indicated to the national executive of the Irish Natura and Hill Farmers Association (INHFA) of his intention to step down as vice-president.”
Molloy thanked Fitzgerald for his work over the past few years, saying it had benefited farmers in Kerry and across the country.
Concluding, Molloy added that it is the association’s hope that following his recovery Fitzgerald “will consider taking on new roles in the organisation because he still has a lot to offer”.
