The salary scale is €54,500 to €88,841 and the positions are located across the Department’s 16 regional offices, in various meat plants and ports, and in headquarters in Dublin/Backweston. Candidates may select up to three geographical regions on their application and rank them in order of preference. They are required to have a current valid full driving licence and/or access to a car (which shall not be a hired vehicle).
As travelling between locations is often required, vets will be compensated for travel and subsistence expenses.
Qualifications
Candidates must hold a qualification in veterinary medicine that is eligible for registration with the Veterinary Council of Ireland (VCI) prior to the closing date and they must be entered on the VCI’s registry of veterinary practitioners prior to being offered a position.
A master’s degree (or higher) in a veterinary subject or a degree/qualification in any other relevant subject is described as a desirable requirement, as is work experience in veterinary practice, education industry or State body. Auditing skills are also desirable.
Veterinary inspectors help protect human food and animal feed chains and preserve the health and welfare of the national herd. They apply and enforce controls that protect public health, animal health and animal welfare, and ensure compliance with legislation – both EU and national.
