Former Coillte chief executive officer (CEO) Fergal Leamy has been appointed as the next CEO of An Post.
Leamy is set to take up the role in mid-August for a seven-year term, succeeding David McRedmond, who will depart the company after 10 years’ service later this year.
Waterford man Leamy formerly held many senior roles, including CEO of Glen Dimplex Group.
He has had strong ties to the agricultural sector over the years, as a previous CEO of Consolidated Pastoral Company and Coillte.
He also once ran a large cattle ranch in Australia, which fattened 350,000 head of cattle per year.
Welcome
Leamy previously served as an adviser to Simon Coveney during his term as minister for agriculture and he worked with Simon’s brother Patrick when he served as CEO of Greencore USA.
“I am delighted to welcome Fergal Leamy as chief executive officer of An Post,” Minister of State with special responsibility for sport and postal policy Charlie McConalogue commented.
“I look forward to working with Fergal on a range of issues, including supporting the resilience of the post office network through Government’s commitment of €15m per annum funding and meeting the challenges posed by changes to An Post’s traditional business model, as letters decline and parcel volumes increase significantly.”
