Remember the MF5610 Massey Ferguson tractor which helped realise the dream of Dutch theatre actress Manon Ossevoort by bringing her safely to the South Pole and back?
Well now a new model of tractor based on the famed MF5610 is available to farmers to purchase for their very own travels.
Massey Ferguson is launching a special edition of its MF 5600 series based on the iconic MF 5610 which broke a world record when it became the the first standard farm tractor equipped with tyres to reach the Geographic South Pole overland. And farmers are encouraged to sign up quickly to beat demand.
The new MF 5610 Antarctica2 Special Edition is equipped with a package of unique features and exclusive design attributes which reflect the many challenges of the 5000 km battle across the ice.
These include a superdeluxe air-suspended seat, mechanical cab suspension, six LED lights, 540/540E/1000 rpm PTO, Massey Ferguson’s high-spec off-road audio entertainment system, rear wiper, AutoDrive Dyna-4 transmission and fenders as standard.
It also includes special black paint on engine grilles and Trelleborg tyres fitted as standard.
Those who purhase the MF 5610 Antarctica2 Special Edition will also be able to claim their very own Antarctica2 jacket, a replica of the one used by the expedition team during the journey. Each tractor will also have its own special Antarctica2 identification plate inside the cab, stamped with its Special Edition number. In all other ways, the tractor will be equivalent to a regular MF 5610 and built on the same production line in Beauvais, France.
Campbell Scott, Massey Ferguson Director of Sales Engineering and Brand Development said the expedition and the tractor "captured the imagination and the hearts of a worldwide audience, many of them working farmers who will be interested in buying their own version of this incredible machine."
The gruelling 28 day, 5000 km trip to the South Pole took place in December last year and was the first wheeled tractor equipped with agricultural tyres, rather than tracks, to make it overland to the Antarctic.
The trip was so-named because it was the second expedition to the South Pole by a Massey Ferguson tractor. The first was undertaken by explorer Sir Edmund Hillary who successfully reached the Pole in 1958 with a fleet of specially adapted Ferguson TE20 tractors fitted with tracks instead of tyres.
Over last December's 28 day journey the MF5610 required only a few running repairs and the engine clocked up an impressive 760 hours of operation, which is more than many farms would do in two years of normal work.
Farmers interested in purchasing or finding out more about the special edition MF5610 should register their interest here.
