Despite calls to restrict nighttime shooting hours, there are no proposals to change lamping legislation.

In a statement, the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht confirmed no such amendments are intended.
“The Department has no proposals to amend the Wildlife Acts in relation to shooting and hunting at night, including the use of lamps”, they said.
However, the Department does confirm that a report has been produced by a working group set up by the Firearms Consultative Panel of the Department of Justice and Equality which recommends best practice guidelines on the issue of shooting and hunting at night.

"The Consultative Panel includes a representative from the NPWS, as well as various other stakeholders. The report is now with the Firearms Consultative Panel itself and it is a matter for that body to further consider the recommendations in the report", the Department said.
This confirmation has come in light of calls from farming organisations rejecting reports by the NPWS and other organisations calling for the restriction of night-time shooting from 12 midnight to 6am.
