More than 200 Limousin bulls made their way to Carlisle for the British Limousin Society's October pre-sale inspections.

Those that passed inspections found themselves under the watchful eyes of judge Duncan Hazard today for the pre-sale show.

Duncan has officiated at a number of top events including the Irish Limousin Society's finals in 2016 which were held in conjunction with the international congress.

After over five hours of judging, he eventually found his champion in the form of Trueman Mozart from the Savage family from Co Down.

This May 2016-born bull is the first calf born out of the record-breaking Trueman Jagger, who himself was champion at this sale two years ago before selling for £147,000.

Mozart secured the male champion and junior interbreed titles at this year's Balmoral show. Having come out in front of the 15th class, the young bull then secured the junior championship before claiming the overall championship.

Reserve

Securing the reserve overall championship behind the Northern Ireland-bred bull was Sarkley Moray from Messers E H Pennie and son.

This intermediate champion is sired by the 13,000gns Ampertaine Interest and out of a homebred Cameron Copilot daughter.

The cattle now go forward to Saturday's sale.

The Irish Farmers Journal will be reporting live from the sale.
