Full marks must go to the North Eastern Limousin Club for organising such a magnificent event on Saturday at the Virginia Show Centre in Co Cavan.
The action-packed North Eastern Limousin Club Extravaganza kicked off with the club's young members' finals, which drew a massive crowed of spectators and competitors.
Coming out on top and going forward to represent the club were Aaron McPhilips, Brodie Molloy, Sinead McKeon and Ben Lynch.
Then came the announcement of the club's herd competition results, which were judged by Donal and Rachel Moloney from Co Clare.
Taking home the award for best novice herd were Paul and Sylvia Flynn of the Bremore herd.
Winning the accolade for best small herd was Frank Kiernan, while Paul Callanan received the prize for best medium-sized herd in the region.
Finally, the award for best large herd went to Eddie and Ben Lynch's Ernevalley herd based in Co Cavan.
Mega Moo competition
As those in attendance enjoyed wonderful hospitality with food and drink at the ready, Damien Sheridan was revealed as the winner of the Mega Moo competition.
As a result, Damien had the choice of any heifer in the sale that evening, with the owner of the heifer receiving a cheque for €10,000.
He selected Clonguish Aster from the herd of Sean and Joe McGarry in Co Longford. Born in March 2025, Aster is a daughter of Whinfellpark Lomu and Templequain Sally, a Haltcliffe Newton-bred cow.
A double carrier of the F94L gene, she came with a four-star within-breed terminal index of €147.
Sale leader
Topping the trade and selling for the highest price of €11,200 was Clontown Aoifitini, a November 2025-born heifer brought out by Monaghan breeder Stephen Treanor.
A daughter of Derrygullinane Kingbull and the well-bred Claragh Oracle, this muscle machine of a heifer went to auction with two copies of the NT821 gene, attracting the attention of commercial show calf producers.
As well as packing a serious phenotype, she also came with four-star terminal and replacement indexes and will now join the herd of fellow Monaghan man Gavin McEnaney.
Club calf champion
Trading at €9,500 was the club's recently crowned female calf champion Oak View Addison ET.
A daughter of Knock Msport and the Haltcliffe Dancer-bred cow Ernevalley Tolouise ET, Addison was bred and exhibited by Alice and Oliver Fitzsimons from Co Cavan.
She boasted a five-star terminal index backed up by two copies of the profit gene and was knocked down to Ryan Mohan.
Overall, the pedigree heifers produced a sale average of €6,311, with just two heifers going home unsold. Both commercial heifers failed to meet their reserve on the night.
