With insurance premiums spiralling across the country, we asked our readers how much extra they paid this year.

Some 28% of respondents said their car or jeep insurance jumped by €200-€299 this year, followed by 21% who saw their premium increase by €100-€199.

A total of 12% said they are paying an extra €300-€399 and a further 11% were quoted an extra €400-€499 this year.

A luckier 13% of respondents said they were subjected to a rise of less than €100, while 15% paid from €500 to over €1,000 extra.

We also asked if drivers had been refused a quote because their car is over 10 years old. Nineteen percent of respondents said they were rejected on this basis when shopping around for a quote.

Indeed, those with older cars faced greater hikes – 31% paid a further €200-€299. Some 20% were quoted an extra €400-€499 on last year’s premium.
