Land supply in Co Louth can often be tight, but in recent weeks, three very large farms have been brought to the market. The latest farm to be offered for sale is situated in Salterstown and has been in the same family for over 250 years. The farm comprises 115.5 acres, the majority of which is in tillage, save for a small five-acre grass paddock.

Intersected by the village of Salterstown, the land is laid out in two adjacent blocks and divided into 12 good-sized fields. The farm also contains a two-storey derelict farmhouse, some stone outbuildings and sheds.

The land has excellent road frontage and touches the coastal road at two separate points, with scenic views of the Irish Sea. Selling agent Chris Smith of Gunne Auctioneers, Navan, believes the fields overlooking the sea would make for “stunning residential sites”, subject to securing the necessary planning permission.

The farm in Salterstown will be offered for sale in its entire or in four separate lots. Lot one comprises the farmyard, stone buildings and derelict house, as well as 7.9 acres. The second lot contains 41.25 acres and is set out in five fields.

The third lot contains a single 11-acre field, currently in tillage, with 400 metres of road frontage overlooking the sea. The fourth, and final, lot extends to 55.35 acres and is laid out in five large divisions. The farm will be offered for sale by public auction on Thursday, 16 October, at 3pm at the Boyne Valley Hotel, Drogheda, Co Louth.

The sale is being handled by Gunne Auctioneers, Navan, that is guiding €9,500 to €10,500/acre. There are no entitlements with the farm.
