A block of 8.6ac adjoins the Aughrim to Aghavannagh public road and is rough grazing land, suitable for forestry or grazing. There is a 0.6ac parcel of enclosed land which is accessed by a right of way.

Colm Farrell of Colm Farrell Auctioneers is urging the Government to purchase this land as national park.

“This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to protect a truly iconic part of Ireland’s natural and historical heritage,” he says. “We are urging the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage to explore a public purchase before this remarkable landscape disappears into private hands.

“The lands extend to Lugnaquilla summit (925 meters), which we believe is the second highest mountain in Ireland, after County Kerry, the highest mountain in Wicklow and the highest point in Leinster, and is an imposing giant of a mountain.
