In the Simmental ring at the Cappamore Agricultural Show, Willie, Mary and Robbie O’Halloran from New Inn, Co Tipperary, took the top spot with their October 2021-born bull sired by Auchorachan Hercules out of a Ballyduff Best cow.

This young bull is no stranger to achieving top honours in the show ring after being previously selected as the supreme Simmental champion and interbreed calf champion at Clonmel and the Southern Simmental Champion and interbreed calf champion at Barryroe show last month.

Reserve overall Simmental champion went to Joe Kelly from Co Clare with his yearling heifer Mount Natalia. Natalia is sired by Hillcrest Champion and her dam is Woodhall Daphne. This classy heifer was also selected as the Southwest Simmental Club yearling heifer champion on the day.

Carl Mulcahy from Ballyhea, Co Cork took the top spot in the Aberdeen Angus ring with Rathford 0128, an October-born bull sired by Laheens Pierre out of a Boss Hogg dam.

The reserve Angus champion went to Pat Murray with his March-born heifer calf, Shingaul Vivian. She is sired by Ryan’s Ringo from a Liss Brendan cow.

In the Limousin ring, Bobby O’Connell from the Ballybrown Herd secured the top spot with his January 2022-born bull, Ballybrown Toro. Toro is a Plumtree Fantastic son out of an Elite Ice Cream-bred cow.

Standing in reserve was another topper from the Ballybrown Herd, Ballybrown Sophie, a January 2021-born heifer.

Declan Donnelly with the overall Hereford champion Clondrina 1704 TH.

Declan Donnelly’s March 2021-born Clondrina 1704 TH sired by Cill Cormaic Perseus caught the judge’s eye and took the top spot in the Hereford ring on the day for the Lissycasey, Co Clare, native.

Following on in reserve was Liam Collins from Ballybrown, Co Limerick with his March-born calf, Ashfort Tommy, a Northern Star son.

The commercial champion was once again the famous two-toothed heifer Tok Tik for Fergal Flannagan and Brian Dyer with the reserve champion spot going to the equally famous heifer from Shane Giltinane, Croagh, Co Limerick.

The overall Charolais champion was definitely no stranger to the show ring this season having a clear run at the top spot all year.

Goldstar Pepite is a 2018-born cow with her September bull calf at foot who has been making her mark for the Ryan family, owners of the Goldstar Herd.

The reserve Charolais champion was November-born Clenagh 2 Sultan owned and exhibited by the Quinn family. This young bull is sired by Clenagh Lyle out of an Ocean dam.

In the Belgian Blue ring taking top honours was Dromalty Quickstep for local men Eamon and Aidan O’Donovan. She is a March-born calf sired by OVO and her dam is sired by Boherard Cantona.

Following closely in reserve was Don Queen for the O’Donovan family, this time from Gortnamucklagh, Dunmanway. This impressive January-born calf sired by Imperial is a full sister to the All-Ireland Belgian Blue senior heifer at Ossory show only a couple of weeks previous.

Interbreed September calf champion went to Martin Ryan with his September-born heifer, Goldstar Saoirse.

The January interbreed calf champion came from the Belgian Blue ring with Dromalty Quickstep catching the judge’s eye.

To conclude was the overall interbreed champion, where Tok Tik for Fergal Flannagan and Brian Dyer stole the show.

Standing close second in the reserve spot was Goldstar Pepite for Martin Ryan and the Goldstar team, a very impressive and deserving reserve champion.
