The annual Red ladies Limousin sale took place in Carlisle recently, with prices reaching as high as 18,000gns.

Taking the top spot in the Red Ladies section at 18,000gns was Goldies Pamela, who was brought forward for sale by Bruce Goldie and family.

This powerful heifer goes back on both sides to the famous Goldies Vitality, being sired by the homebred Goldies James and a granddam of Goldies Frangrance who bred bulls to 25,000gns. Pamela’s dam is a full-sister to the two February high-sellers from Goldies who hit the market at 30,000gns each.

After back and forth bidding, the February 2019-born heifer was eventually knocked down to successful bidder Ian Miller of the Millers Limousin herd.

This was one of five animals to sell for 10,000gns. First at the money was Woodmarsh Opera from M and JC Gould Ltd, Shrewsbury. Opera, a December 2018-born embryo calf, was sired by Whinfellpark Lomu, with her dam being the 7,000gns Truman Miranda. Opera is heading across the water to Trevor Shields of the Glenmarshal herd, in Newry, Co Down.

Second in line to hit 10,000gns was Whinfellpark Priscilla, exhibited by Messrs Jenkinson. She is an April 2019-born heifer by Gunnerfleet Lion, who was purchased by the herd in February 2017 for 22,000gns. Out of Whinfellpark Lexi, Priscilla heads home to Boden and Davies Sportsmans herd.

Also sharing the silver spot of 10,000gns was Sarkley Palola. A daughter of the 19,000gns Ampertaine Jeronimo, the December 2019-born Palola heads across the waters to Mr Williamson.

Topping the weaned calf trade was Brenmick Rosie who sold for 10,000gns. This January-born heifer was an embryo calf brought forward from RM Jones, Conwy, north Wales.

Out of a homebred cow, Brenmick Anna, she is sired by Irish bull Elite Forever Brill. She heads across the water to commercial member Gareth Corrie, Newtownards.

Overall 34 Red Ladies averaged over £5,300 while 34 weaned calves recorded an average of just over £3,100.
