Blessington Livestock Mart hosted the annual Irish Charollais Sheep Society Premier Sale on Saturday, where just under 160 animals passed through the sales ring.
The sale was topped at €5,000 by a stand-out shearling named Duiske Centodieci from the flock of Gerry and Dympna Grogan.
This sale-topping ram was a sired by the highly admired Ballinaslee B Eight and he had also claimed the overall reserve champion title in the pre-sale show the evening prior.
It was Sligo-based breeder Paul Barnes that placed the winning bid.
The Grogans sold two more shearling rams for in excess of €3,000, the first was Duiske Cartier that sold for €3,200 to Bernard Casey and the second was Duiske Cilindri that was purchased by Killian Traynor for €3,000.
The ram lamb consignment was topped by Hollybank Daytona, a Logie Durno Watchman son from the flock of Edward and Helen Malone, that sold for €3,800.
On this occasion it was David Argue of the well-known Rockdale flock that was the successful purchaser.
Following closely behind the top-priced ram lamb, selling for €3,500 was a Springhill Cash Call son from Richard Thompson’s Arkrow flock.
It was Eugene O’Sullivan that placed the winning bid to add this bright lamb to his Ardcath flock.
Selling for the same price was Rockdale Daft Punk from David Argue. This Thackwood Bangkok son was scooped up by Mayo man TJ Duffy.
Late in the day Frank Jordan’s ram lamb Ballinaslee Danehill sold for €3,000 to Donal Keaney.
On the day males averaged €1,316 with a 71% clearance while females averaged €730 with a 79% clearance.
