Dowra Mart’s sheep sale on Saturday saw similar numbers of animals on offer, with a noted stabilisation in the trade.

While factory prices are behind what they were during the same period last year, lambs with good fleshing and kill-out potential still saw prices hit to a high of €185/head, with several lots hitting the high-€170s and low-€180s across the sale, with agents anxious to secure numbers of lambs.

Prices in the main for heavy finished lots were from €3.15/kg to €3.40/kg, with lots close to the 50kg mark but still able to max out carcase weights recording the highest price per kilo.

Ewe lambs were a slightly sharper trade than ram lambs, though numbers of these were relatively low.

The store lamb trade was firm, with lambs with good frames and capable of taking high levels of feeding the most sought after by buyers.

Lambs in the low-40kg bracket commanded €100 to €110/head with their weight for top-end stores, while lighter lambs below the 40kg mark generally sold for €90 to €100/head with their weight.

Top price in the store lamb section was a batch of seven lambs weighing 43kg that sold for €152.50 (€3.54/kg), with a pen of lighter lambs weighing 28kg selling for €122/head (€3.21/kg).
