While there has been no increase in lamb quotes for the first half of the week, agents appear to be keener for lambs as they look to return to more normal levels of throughput.

Lamb supplies are still tight, both in marts and at the factories’ gates, though factories appear to be trying to hold prices below €8/kg as much as possible.

The general run of quotes appears to be similar to last week, with €7.80/kg to €7.90/kg being the base, with 10c to 20c/kg of a quality assurance (QA) payment on the cards for SBLAS farmers.

Saying this, Kildare Chilling is understood to have circulate a text to farmers over the weekend offering €8/kg plus 10c/kg QA bonus, though official quotes remain at €7.90/kg plus 10c/kg QA bonus.

Producer groups and regular sellers are working off a price of €8.10/kg to €8.15/kg plus 10c/kg QA bonus, with €8.20/kg harder got.

In the live ring, agents are reportedly more active for finished lambs, dipping down to a liveweight of 44kg for lambs with a high flesh cover and appear less willing to let lambs go unsold.
