Shearfest 2026 is lining up for an exhilarating day of shearing competitions on Sunday 31 May, with over 1,500 sheep being shorn across a number of premier shearing competitions.
The spotlight is on a new provincial shearing competition, which will see four shearers across junior, intermediate, senior and open shearing grades compete for the top accolade.
There will also be the normal shearing competitions including junior, intermediate, senior and open machine and blade shearing championships in a jam-packed day of shearing that will see over 1,500 ewe hoggets shorn.
Sheep expo
The wool expo was a popular attraction on Saturday 30 May, featuring information about the sustainability credentials of wool, the modern innovative uses of wool and the agricultural heritage behind the industry.

Another new attraction in 2026 which attracted keen interest on Saturday was a demonstration of traditional farrier methods by farrier Dylan Marsh O’Connell. The demonstrations showcase how to fit horse shoes and tips on hoof health.
