Balmoral Show: Co Antrim breeder takes shearling pairs
Well-known Co Antrim cattle and sheep breeder, William McAllister, enjoyed success in the showring on Friday with taking the title for best pair of shearling ewes.
Friday saw sheep competing in the best pair categories, with entries being forwarded by one exhibitor for two animals of the same breed.

The highlight of the competition was the entry of shearling ewes, which saw a tremendous field of sheep on display across 18 entries.

Judging duties were carried out by James Warnock of Lanark, chair of the Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland.
Winning nod
After a whittling down the large entry field to just six finalists, the judge’s prize-winning nod was given to William McAllister, Kells, Co Antrim, for his entry of impressive Charollais shearling ewes.
Second place was awarded to A & J Carson, Strabane, Co Tyrone, for their pair of Blue Texel sheep. Third place went to Patrick Donnelly, Ballymena, Co Antrim withTexel shearling ewes.
Winning the best pair of shearling rams was Diane Christie, Comber, Co Down.
