Calls have been made for action to be taken to help develop productivity and growth in the industry. In the latest Horizon publication, the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) discusses the need for industry stakeholders to work together on solutions to issues created by Brexit. The report Driving productivity growth together, published this week, was written by AHDB’s chief strategy officer Tom Hind.
If a joint effort is made, AHDB says some of the solutions can be found through creating a more effective way of monitoring funding and ensuring that investments made will target the key limits on productivity. Other solutions would include developing a What Works centre for the industry to enable scientific studies and research, sharing knowledge across the industry and improving training and the uptake of skills on farms.
A final solution suggested in the report is to build upon existing work such as the AHDB’s Farm Excellence Platform to encourage learning between farmers and growers.
