Meat remains off the menu in Edinburgh council schools at the start of the week, despite the local authority stopping “Meat Free Monday”.

After a year-long trial, an Edinburgh Council spokesperson confirmed that Mondays will change to ‘Mega Monday goes round the World’.

The summer menu for schools will not offer any beef, pork or chicken on the first day of the week.

However Quorn, a fungal protein, will be offered to children three out of four Mondays a month.
