Carlisle Mart sold wheat straw for around £100/t for square bales earlier this week. This is up from £75-£80/t this time last year. Round bales were making between £26 and £28 per bale for barley straw. Poor-quality recently baled straw was making £14/bale. The sale up in Thainstone last Friday saw around 600 barley straw round bales making between £12 and £13 per bale. Typically Thainstone will sell between 500-1,000 bales a week.
