Prices for silage continue to creep upwards as an increasing number of farmers look to source additional fodder to bridge the deficit in winter feed.
Reports from several farmers indicate that round bales of average-quality silage are selling from £24 to £32 in the majority of cases, with bales at the lower end of prices not including transport.
At the upper end of the market, there have been reports of bales sold at £42. Pit silage has been selling from £35/t to £40/t.
Prices for straw have also increased due to limited availability and growing demand. Reports indicate 8x4x3 bales moving at £70 to £75 with 8x4x4 bales selling upwards on £100.
Round bales are selling around the £30 to £35/bale mark, including transport.
Hay bales are continuing to sell around £35 to £40/bale, with reports of bales imported from England.
