Over 2,400 breeding ewe lambs met a flying trade at Aghanloo outside Limavady on Tuesday.

The highest priced ewe lambs were Suffolk Cheviots from the flock of R Canning, Drumsurn, that sold for £164.

The biggest show of the day came from local producers Arnold and Brian Douglas with over 40 pens of ewe lambs presented.

Their first pen of Greyface sold for £160, their highest priced pen of Mules made £150 and their Suffolk cross ewe lambs topped out at £144.

Prices further down the line held up well, reflecting the standard of stock on offer, with only a few pens from the Douglas flock selling for under £120.

The sale, which is run by Alexander Gourley Ltd, still draws a substantial show of Greyface ewe lambs from local breeders. Seamus McLaughin received £144 for his first pen and Eugene Lagan topped out at £130.

Christopher Mullan had Suffolk Cheviot ewe lambs on offer and his tops made £146.

Across all Greyface, Mule and Suffolk Cheviot ewe lambs, the bulk of lots sold for £115 to £135. Smaller sized lambs made slightly less, but there were few lots that sold for under £105.

Continentals

There was a small show of continental cross hoggets at the start of the sale that topped out at £168. This was followed by a run of Blackface hoggets that generally sold from £118 to £150.
