Met Éireann has issued a status yellow thunderstorm warning for Carlow, Cork, Kilkenny, Waterford, and Wexford.
The warning came into effect at 3.45pm on Monday.
Scattered thunderstorms will arrive this early evening, bringing some heavy downpours with the risk of spot flooding and hail.
The warning will remain in place until 6pm on Monday.
