Due to a change in family and work commitments, Liam and Karen Burke’s Curraghtarsna herd went under the hammer in Kilmallock over the weekend. The 20 lots were met with a lively trade, selling to a top of €4,900 and only three going unsold.

Topping trade was the four-year-old cow Carrigroe N Kian, which sold alongside her end of January heifer calf Curraghtarsna Thelma. This five-star cow is a daughter of Rathosheen Hugo, while the calf is sired by the herd’s stock bull Carrigroe Nathan. Sold back in-calf to a new AI bull HF Alcatraz, she was the pick of Donogh McCarthy for his Lemonfield herd in Co Limerick.

Mr McCarthy also secured the September 2018-born heifer Curraghtarsna Rosie at a price of €2,160. This daughter of popular bull HF Rebel is out of the Missie line, which goes back to the famous DMM Miss Essence 22B. Next in the money was a bid of €4,380 for Goulding M Princess 726 and her freshly-born calf. This rising five-year-old cow is a daughter of Nightingale Proud Jake, with the dam’s pedigree including Young Dale Touchdown and Cartonroe Ernie. Five stars on the replacement index, she sold with a lively week old calf by Carrigroe Nathan.

This daughter of the aforementioned HF Rebel is out of a Bunlahy John G cow that goes back to Carrigroe Dakota. She is due to calve in February to HF Alcatraz.
