Met Éireann has issued a yellow rainfall warning for seven counties around the coast.
Those in counties Wicklow, Galway, Mayo, Clare, Cork, Kerry and Waterford have been placed on alert from 4pm Tuesday 29 September until 12pm Wednesday 30 September.
Spells of heavy rain will move eastwards across Ireland from Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning, with between 25mm and 40mm of rain forecast to fall. There is a risk of localised flooding also.
Met Éireann has warned that the highest amounts will fall in the southwest of the country and in mountainous areas.
