There was a clean sweep for west Cork exhibitors and the thoroughbred stallion Munther in the All Ireland filly foal final at Moate. Coinciding with the 97th anniversary of Béal na mBláth, west Cork showmen filled the top-three places in the 15-strong final.

Topping Ruth Browne and Denis McGrath’s line-up was Kieran O’Gorman’s Munther’s April, by his own stallion, Munther, out of Brookfield Miss Lux (Lux Z). The dam previously won the 2009 Breeders’ Championship at Dublin as a foal.

Reserve was Leo Cahalane’s Island Commander filly out of Automatic Mover (Limmerick). The same dam produced the Skibberreen breeder’s All Ireland champion colt foal two years ago at Clarecastle and LAS’s champion was Patrick Wafer’s Parkmore Tyson, victorious in The Irish Field Breeders’ Championship with his Ghareeb dam, Parkmore Evita. It was the second year that a Munther-sired filly won this final and P.J’s Decision, while not quite emulating her full-sister’s 2018 title feat, finished a respectable third.

“The top three foals caught our eye from when they entered the ring. While eventually it was a close call between first and second, the winning filly had quality and scope, she moved freely with super balance and cadence.

“Denis and I were happy with the final line up and I am delighted to see thoroughbred-sired foals dominating,” judge Ruth Browne said.
