Met Éireann has issued a status yellow wind warning for Ireland, coming into effect from 1pm on Wednesday.

Strong to gale force southwesterly winds, veering westerly will reach mean speeds of 50-65km/h with gusts of 90-110km/h. A risk of some wave overtopping in coastal areas.

The warning remain in place until 7am on Thursday.

Meanwhile, a status orange wind warning will come into effect for Cork and Kerry on Wednesday from 8pm.

Southwest to west winds will reach mean speeds of 65-80km/h with damaging gusts to 120km/h for a time early tonight with some wave overtopping.

The warning will remain in place until Saturday afternoon.
