Diversity is a buzzword in agriculture of late, with farmers encouraged to innovate in various different ways.

One such way is tourism and a 360-acre holding in Mayo can certainly benefit from this activity. Located at Leenaun Hill in Leenan, on the Mayo Galway border, it overlooks Killary Harbour, a tourist hotspot in the region.

The property is described as scenic and is south-facing, with 20 acres extending down to the harbour. The land is of decent quality for a hill farm and at present 280 ewes are grazing there. The basic farm payment of €26,000 has been drawn down for the last number of years. Handling the sale is Patrick Dermody of Dermody Auctioneers in Kilconly in Galway. He told Irish Country Living that interest has been good since the holding has been put on the market. It is guided for €1,500/ac by a private treaty sale.
