Planning permission has been lodged for a 365ac solar farm in Co Meath. Planning permission for the large commercial development was lodged by Solar Farmers Ltd (part of the Energia Group) this week.

The development consists of the erection of solar panels mounted on steel support structures, three client substations and 39 MV power stations.

The development will also see the erection of seven battery storage containers, access tracks, hard standing area, boundary security fencing and security gates. The sites will be monitored by CCTV.

The site stretches across the townlands of Rogerstown, Smithstown, Calliaghstown, Piltown and Ballymad.

Successful applicants of the first auction under the Renewable Electricity Support Scheme (RESS) were announced earlier this month.

Winners of the competitive auction secured a 15-year contract, under which they will receive a premium on top of the market price of electricity.

Overall, 114 projects applied to the scheme - 109 qualified to compete in the auction, including 19 new wind farms and 63 solar power projects.
