A 43-acre farm at Keevagh, near Quin in Co Clare, sold under the hammer for €250,000 or just over €5,800/ac at auction recently.
The farm, which was laid out in grass, was in poor condition and needed improvements throughout the various parts of the holding. However, it must be said that there is definite potential for the farm if the right investment is made. It is expected that the farmer who is believed to have bought the holding will do just that.
The auction itself took place in The Old Ground Hotel, Ennis, in front of an audience of 25 people. Bidding opened at €140,000 or €3,250/ac and, with the help of two eager bidders, rose until it reached the selling price of €5,800/ac. The under bidder was a local farmer. It was bought in trust by a solicitor John Halpin from Kerin Hickman and O’Donnell Solicitors in Co Clare.

The farm itself contains limestone soil and so there is great potential. Re-seeding is needed, as well as fencing and the installation of a water supply. One positive aspect of the farm is that is contains road frontage.
