There will be at least 1,000 jobs (and counting) up for grabs at the Agri Careers Fair. ABP is one of the biggest recruiters with 141 positions to fill (see below), while other employers with big numbers of jobs on offer include Glanbia and Teagasc.

Teagasc is establishing a national panel from which agricultural development officer vacancies in the area of advisory, education and training will be filled. These officers will deliver services within those fields for Teagasc; advisers help develop clients’ farm businesses while college teachers and education officers will deliver classes and practicals to students. Application forms for this should be submitted by midnight on Monday 10 April.

This is not the only panel Teagasc will be recruiting to fill at the fair. The authority will also be recruiting for a panel from which all forestry adviser vacancies will be filled. Those who are successful in getting these positions will provide independent and objective advice to forest owners and those considering forestry. Completed application forms should be submitted by midnight on 6 April. Panels for both the agricultural development officers and the forestry advisers will be used to fill permanent and temporary vacancies and will remain in place for two years.

Teagasc will also be recruiting for many research opportunities within the organisation at the fair.

There are many graduate programmes being recruited for at the fair too. Dawn Meats and Fyffes each have 10 positions to fill on their graduate programmes, while Aurivo is also hiring graduates. Slaney Foods is recruiting for its graduate programme but is also looking for six boners and six trimmers. Liffey Meats is recruiting for people in production management, health and safety, and food safety roles.

In the farm machinery sector, CLAAS is recruiting for apprentices, service engineers and stores parts persons – and this is to name but a few of the positions available with the company. McHale is looking for production operatives, fitters, welders and press brake operators (again, this is just a sample of their available roles), while Dairymaster is recruiting for a range of interesting positions such as technical communications engineers, international sales executives and software/electronics Engineers – among other roles.

Thames Farming Group is looking for assistant dairy farm managers.

We don’t have space to detail all the companies and every job available at the fair on this page alone. Suffice it to say, if you’re interested in a job in rural Ireland, you cannot afford to miss the Agri Careers Fair. See you in the RDS next week.
