A farm in Meelick, just outside Portlaoise, sold for €1.35m at auction on Tuesday evening.

The 100-acre farm is divided by the M7 motorway and comprises a mixture of tillage and grazing land, with 80.78ac on one side and 19.22ac on the other side of the main road.

Both parcels of land had a substantial degree of road frontage and were sold together as a 100-acre block. The buyers are believed to be a local farming family.

The guide price was set by auctioneer Paddy Jordan at €10,000/ac. However, when bidding concluded, the property had made €13,500/ac, or €1.35m.

Georgian house

Woodville house, described as a “charming Georgian residence” by the auctioneer, was also for sale on the day. It came with 18ac of parkland, a courtyard and a gate lodge. It was previously owned by the Odlum family.

Bidding opened with an initial offer of €500,000, however, two bidders were intent on securing the property and the hammer finally dropped at €630,000.

Speaking after the sale, auctioneer Paddy Jordan said that “both properties had generated substantial interest”.
