ABP Food Group is poised to acquire full ownership of organic meat processor Good Herdsmen.

The Larry Goodman-owned group acquired a 50% stake in the Co Tipperary business a number of years ago.

On Wednesday, the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission announced that it had been notified that ABP would be taking sole control.

Good Herdsmen operates a processing plant in Cahir and sells organic beef and sheep products to grocery retailers and industrial processors in Ireland and abroad.

It is the largest independent exporter of Irish organic meat, selling in six countries including Germany and France.

If cleared, the move will increase Goodman’s control of meat processing here.

In December 2015, ABP Food Group acquired a 50% stake in Slaney Foods, the parent company of Slaney Meats and Irish Country Meats. This year, it took a 50% stake in Linden Foods, another stakeholder in Slaney.
