Alltech, the Irish-based animal nutrition company, has acquired Solbiosur, a Spanish agricultural and horticultural crop solutions business, for an undisclosed sum. Headquartered in Murcia in south-eastern Spain, which is one of the largest regions of Europe for horticultural production, Solbiosur has been manufacturing agricultural crop solutions for farmers since 2006.

For Alltech, this acquisition will bring greater distribution reach in the region, along with Solbiosur’s existing customer base. Alltech’s regional director in Spain, Jomi Bernad Blanch, said the deal delivers “greater crop efficiency and profitability” directly to customers.

The Solbiosur deal is the third acquisition announced by Alltech in 2016. In January, the group announced it has acquired Masterfeeds, one of the leading animal feed manufacturers in Canada producing feed for the dairy, beef, pork and poultry sectors as well as a range of pet foods.

In April this year, Alltech bought the long established Keenan’s machinery business from receivership. Documents filed this week show Alltech paid €3.2m for the Keenan business, which was understood to have debts of €13m, with about €9m owed to its main lender, Bank of Ireland.
