The Department of Health has said they’ve been advised that 88% of coronavirus cases in meat factories are “no longer infectious as they are past the infectious period of 14 days.”

They added that: “…approximately 62 per cent have returned to work.”

To date, some 2,400 people have been tested for COVID-19 in meat plants and over 1,000 have tested positive for the virus.

There are also 19 reported clusters and seven factories have had every employee tested by the HSE.

Independent TD Denis Naughten said that this has led to fears of a spillover of the virus into local communities.
