ICMSA livestock committee chair Des Morrison has reminded farmers that the closing date for the Beef Finisher Payment is Wednesday 9 September.
To qualify for the €100 per head payment, farmers must have slaughtered an animal between 1 February 2020 and 12 June 2020 inclusive. They must also be a member of Bord Bia’s quality assurance scheme or undertake to become a member before 30 September 2020.
Morrison said: “It is also important to point out that all farmers, including dairy farmers with more than 40 dairy cows, are eligible to apply for this payment and there is no stock reduction requirement associated with this scheme, unlike the previous BEAM scheme.”

Compensate farmers
Agent or dealer herds will not be eligible for payment. Animals identified on the Department as presented for slaughter by or on behalf of a factory will also be ineligible.
“The Beef Finisher Payment will go some way to compensate farmers who slaughtered cattle during the specified period and it is vital that every eligible farmer applies before the deadline,” Morrison concluded.
