A total of 1,106 cattle came under the hammer in the past week at Clogher Mart. A range of cattle types were forwarded for sale from fat cows to stores to dropped calves. General trade is reported as being steady with plenty of quality cattle brought forward in all classes.

In the fatstock ring, beef cows sold to a top price of £2.06/kg. The top 20 cows sold to an average of £1.56/kg with plainer cattle selling from £1/kg up to £1.43/kg, depending on cow condition. Fleshed dairy-bred cows sold from 72p/kg to 98p/kg with lesser quality types selling back to 54p/kg.

In the store ring, heavy fleshed bullocks from 630kg to 680kg sold at a general price range of £2.02/kg back to £1.85/kg for good continental types. Forward bullocks suited for further feeding from 550kg to 590kg sold at a general price range of £2/kg to £2.22/kg and again well-bred continental cattle commanded higher prices. Lighter stores from 400kg sold at similar prices.

Heifers sold to a top price of £1,355 for a 720kg animal with finished heifers selling from £1.85/kg to £2/kg for 560kg to 680kg animas. Lighter heifers from 400kg upwards sold from £1.80/kg to £2.27/kg.

In-calf cows and heifers sold from £695 to a top price of £1,300. Calves sold from £250 to £300 for Limousin, Blue and Hereford cross animals.
