Cattle prices were firm for lighter store cattle at Swatragh Mart this week.

Cattle were an excellent trade at Swatragh Mart this week, with more buyers around the sale ring looking for good-quality store animals for grazing. Store heifers weighing 400kg to 450kg sold to a top price per kilo of 224p for a 420kg Charolais animal. The main trade for continental animals was 190p to 215p/kg. Lighter stores below 400kg sold well, with buyer demand driving prices to over 200p/kg.
Store bullocks sold from 240p to 291p/kg for good-quality Charolais types weighing 280kg to 300kg, with heavier stores making 210p to 240p/kg for cattle weighing up to 350kg.
Forward stores over 400kg were a solid trade, selling anywhere from 180p to 220p/kg.

Heavy fleshed cattle saw heifers selling to a top price of £1,140 for a 638kg Simmental, while fat bullocks sold to a peak of £1,285 for a 680kg Simmental animal.
Cull cows reached a peak price of £1,260 for a 744kg Charolais animal, with fleshed cows in general selling from 160p to 180p/kg.
